Senior Accounting Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:
 
The Senior Accounting Specialist reports to the Senior Accounting Manager and is responsible for reviewing and processing accounts payable and preparing various account reconciliations for the month end close process. Other duties may include maintaining bank records, processing payroll, and miscellaneous accounting and administrative duties.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
These may include but are not limited to:
 
  • Manage accounts payable functions, including data entry, matching invoices with supporting documents and processing payment of invoices and expense reports
  • Reconcile vendor statements promptly and accurately, respond to vendor inquiries and maintain accounts payable files and records
  • Produce monthly accounts payable reports (e.g., AP aging) and analyze company expenses
  • Support the month-end close process, including data entry, reconciliation of sub-ledgers to the general ledger, maintenance of account reconciliations, and preparation of journal entries
  • Reconcile pre-paid accounts and other accrual
 
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Ad hoc projects, such as financial analyses, and other duties as assigned.
 
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 
  • BS degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent with 0-2 years of experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills,
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, maintain positive attitude and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work remotely and independently
  • Accounts payable/accounting experience, preferably in life science, preferred,
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word; NetSuite experience preferred
 
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
 
Equipment:   PC, scanners, voice mail and e-mail systems, and common office machines, or ability to be trained.
 
Software Knowledge:  Familiarity with Windows and MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).  Knowledge of other software, such as NetSuite or Microsoft Great Plains, a plus.
 
EFFORT REQUIRED/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
 
Physical Activities:  On a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Laboratory Activities, if applicable:  Biology and chemical laboratory environments experience needed.  Environmental health and safety requirements also apply.
 
TRAVEL:
 
Travel may be required, up to 5% of your time.
