Senior Director, Financial Planning & Analysis

The Senior Director, Financial Planning and Analysis will lead the organization’s FP&A function and is responsible for all corporate budgeting, planning, management reporting, and driving strategic insights for the business.  This position will develop and provide standardized and best-in-class financial analysis, reporting, and insights to support decision making and allocation of resources across our therapeutic areas and global markets. She/he will drive and facilitate processes including the annual operating plan, monthly and quarterly business reviews, long-range planning, quarterly forecasts, interim forecasts/scenarios, and periodic or ad hoc analyses. In addition, she/he will develop an outstanding FP&A team by providing guidance, training, and mentorship.  The role will report to the Chief Financial Officer.   This is a high-impact, collaborative and visible role.
These may include but are not limited to:
  • Leads the organization’s FP&A function and is responsible for all corporate budgeting, planning, management reporting, and driving strategic insights for the business. This position works on highly complex initiatives where analysis of situations requires an in-depth understanding of organizational objectives and research and development plans across multiple drug candidates
  • Develop and implement best-in-class and scalable FP&A processes and procedures to drive informed decision-making for the Executive Team, Project Team Leads, and Department Heads to facilitate reporting, quarterly forecasting, quarter end, board materials, strategic/long-range-planning; reporting and analysis to highlight trends and drivers of variances to facilitate effective management of the business
  • Lead the financial planning and analysis function while ensuring spend and forecasting discipline as the company continues to scale
  • Provide insightful analysis of complex data in a succinct fashion to non-finance business leaders; deliver consolidations, analyses, and outputs that synthesize, distill, and clearly communicate key trends and insights, variances to plan, future drivers, and opportunities and risks, leveraging and demonstrating a strong command of the business and its key performance drivers
  • Partner with Commercial organization to develop revenue and cost forecasts, including gross-to-net for future launch of rare disease assets
  • Manage relationships and requirements for partnerships with external finance counterparts

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field; MBA or CPA is a plus
  • 12+ years of progressive experience and demonstrated growth including a minimum of 5 years in Finance/FP&A required. At least 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Pharmaceuticals or biotech experience required; prior experience in drug development activities in biopharma or healthcare industry, including commercial operations in the U.S. and worldwide markets, is preferred
  • Proven ability to manage complex finance processes such as budgets, forecasts, and strategic/long-range plan
  • Experience with application of financial concepts to program and portfolio management
  • Expert knowledge of accounting and finance concepts and working knowledge of US GAAP is required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as an ability to communicate and present effectively with all levels of staff
  • Solutions-oriented with the ability to bring and implement actionable and practical solutions
  • Thought leader with the ability to act independently in a dynamic, ambiguous, and rapid growth environment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop forecasting models and perform in-depth analyses of industry market trends
  • Excellent knowledge of planning systems (Adaptive Insights), Business Intelligence, and ERP systems is required, with a high proficiency in Microsoft tools

Equipment:   PC, scanners, voice mail and e-mail systems, and common office machines, or ability to be trained.  Knowledge of other equipment required: Familiarity with biology lab equipment (pipets, pH meter, centrifuges, liquid handlers, microplate readers, etc.)
Software Knowledge:  Windows, MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  
Physical Activities:  On a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means.
