Senior Research Associate Biology and Automation

We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Senior Research Associate to join our in vitro Biology team at Crinetics. The successful candidate will be an integral member of multidisciplinary teams working on unmet needs in endocrine related diseases and striving to make a real difference in the lives of patients. 
Their primary role will be improving processes and providing support for in vitro pharmacology data generation for drug discovery campaigns, mechanism of action studies, and new target efforts in an environment that values scientific integrity and quality, and fosters learning, open communication, collaboration, and teamwork.
These may include but are not limited to:
  • Streamline laboratory processes by developing and validating laboratory automation protocols, analytics pipelines, and integration with existing systems. Processes include a range from routine laboratory tasks to unique, less commonly run procedures.
  • Critically analyze and suggest improvements to existing processes. Understand the important aspects of the assays and where you can help improve efficiency and data quality.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with other researchers to achieve crucial research objectives and meet ambitious timelines. Communication is key in understanding needs and issues, discussing together what can be done, and teaching them how to implement solutions.
  • Program, optimize, validate, and coordinate implementation of automated liquid handler methods on Tecan D300e, Agilent Bravo, and other platforms
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot problems with liquid handlers, plate readers, and other lab instruments
  • Lead and/or assist in the preparation of samples and reagents using best laboratory practices
  • Efficiently and accurately document results, protocols, and automated processes
  • Educate other researchers about the instruments capabilities and train them on usage
  • Maintain familiarity with current scientific literature and pertinent new technologies. Adapt concepts from literature to bench research to support ongoing studies.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • BS and a minimum of 5 years of experience in an in vitro biology lab utilizing automation
  • Practical experience with and an in-depth knowledge of a broad range of laboratory instruments, automation, and analysis software (especially liquid handlers), including instrument programing, capabilities, and maintenance
  • Experience in basic biology techniques and how to adapt them to automation
  • Consistent and careful attention to detail
  • Outstanding experimental design, problem-solving, and data analysis skills
  • Ability to rapidly learn new assays/instruments and process data
  • Ability to effectively multitask and advance various projects simultaneously without compromising data quality or reproducibility
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment toward timely execution of shared team deliverables
  • Enthusiasm for developing an expanding technical and theoretical knowledge base
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), time management, organizational and interpersonal skills to ensure operational excellence of daily laboratory needs
  • Must have wet lab experience. Tissue culture and cell-based assay experience is highly desired
Equipment: Expertise in laboratory automation, especially liquid handlers and plate readers. Familiarity with biology lab equipment (pipets, pH meter, centrifuges, etc). PC, scanners, voice mail and e-mail systems, and common office machines, or ability to be trained. 
Software Knowledge: Windows, MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  Knowledge of other software required: GraphPad Prism experience is an asset
Physical Activities: On a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Laboratory Activities: Biology and chemical laboratory environments experience needed. Environmental health and safety requirements also apply.
Travel may be required up to 5% of your time.
The Anticipated Base Salary Range: $70,000.00 – $93,000.00
