Joy Wu, M.D., Ph.D., FASBMR

Dr. Wu is Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Gerontology and Metabolism and Vice Chair of Basic and Translational Science in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. She earned her MD and PhD degrees from Duke University School of Medicine and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and clinical fellowship in Endocrinology at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Wu directs a basic and translational research program that focuses on skeletal development, the bone marrow hematopoietic and metastatic niche, and stem cell therapies for bone. Her research has been funded by several NIH institutes including NIAMS, NIDDK, NHLBI and NIA, as well as the Mary Kay Foundation and the Department of Defense. Dr. Wu has served on clinical guideline committees for the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Endocrine Society, and the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy. She has been awarded the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award and the Stanford University Faculty Women’s Forum Allyship Award. Dr. Wu served as a member of the Board of Directors the Endocrine Society from 2019 to 2022 and she is currently a member of the Council of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research.
