Dr. Mirjam Christ-Crain is Professor of Endocrinology and Chair of the Endocrine Clinic at the University of Basel and University Hospital of Basel. She earned her medical degree from the University of Basel and her doctorate from the University of London. She previously held a research professorship from the Swiss National Science Foundation and served as chair of the Department of Clinical Research at the University of Basel.

She has served on the executive boards of the Swiss Endocrine Society and the European Society of Endocrinology and is currently president-elect of the European Society of Endocrinology, with her presidency beginning in 2027. She is a member of the editorial board of the European Journal of Endocrinology and serves as chair of the 2026 joint Endocrine Society and European Society of Endocrinology guidelines on AVP deficiency. She also participates in the task force developing the 2026 joint hyponatremia guidelines between the European Societies for Endocrinology and Nephrology.

Her research focuses on pituitary disorders, with particular emphasis on the posterior pituitary, including vasopressin-dependent fluid disorders and oxytocin. She leads a clinical research team conducting trials to develop copeptin-based diagnostic tests for AVP deficiency and to explore the therapeutic potential of oxytocin. She has published more than 400 manuscripts and has received several awards for her research.
