Meet Frank

Tell us about yourself, your position, background, motivations.

I was born in China and started falling love to chemistry in high school. I eventually earned a PhD degree in Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences and then came to USA as a postdoc working on peptidomimetic at Prof. Murray Goodman’s lab in UCSD. It was the research occurring in Prof Goodman’s group made me realized I love medicine chemistry far more than pure organic chemistry. After working in several local biotechs in more than one decade, I joined the team of Scott, Steve, Ana to start Crinetics in 2010 with motivation of building up a rare endocrine disease company. As Vice President of Chemistry, I am responsible to lead the team of medicinal chemists in coordination with biologists and preclinic scientists to discover novel molecules that in the near future can be used for treating diseases. Other than Paltusotine, CRN04894 and CRN04777, I am motivated just like everyone else in Research to bring more CRNXXXXX (novel molecules) to the Development.

As a founder, what inspired you to create Crinetics? To be an expert in your field?

The passion for drug discovery, the trust and the compliment skill set among all founders inspired me to join the founding team.

What are your thoughts on the company during its creation compared to now?

During the last 11 years, We at Crinetics have grown up and proved to our patients, investors and peers that we are capable to discover and develop first in class and possibly best in class drug candidates targeting rare endocrine diseases. With Paltusotine moving to Phase III clinic trial for Acromegaly, it is exciting to see our founders’ original goal of making Crinetics a commercial company becomes closer and closer.

What is your advice on people hoping to join Crinetics?

Prepare to contribute with your skill and talent. Work will be challenge and intensive sometime, but you will be rewarded and proud yourself to be associated with a bunch of smart people and a successful company.
