Position Summary: 
 
A unique opportunity to be part of the CEO office and have a direct line of sight to the strategy of a rapidly growing biotech company. Reporting to the Chief of Staff and Head of Portfolio Strategy, Crinetics Pharmaceuticals is seeking an internal Associate Director, CEO Office to support multiple aspects of the business driving efficiency within the organization. You will be working on special initiatives, cross-departmental communication, top-level business unit priorities & goals, strategic planning, and processes. This position plays a key role within the CEO office focused on  business planning and market analysis activities  by providing objective, in-depth information on current and future markets, customers and competitors as well as studying the experiences of other companies that have gone before us. The position works closely with the Chief of Staff and team within the CEO office to evaluate and assess different business objectives and opportunities for growth. This role will be focused on driving critical business insights for the CEO office and partner with stakeholders throughout the company to drive evaluations and execute on ideas. The successful candidate will embrace being a generalist who uses a combination of science and business acumen to inform recommendations and also have a mind for higher-level strategy.
 
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
 
These may include but are not limited to:
  • Partner with the current Chief of Staff and CEO to define business priorities, drive execution of key initiatives, and create alignment between and within teams.
  • Be a strategic thought partner to the Chief of Staff and the CEO
  • Evaluate and drive special projects coordinated through the Office of the CEO that deliver on different business objectives (including corporate growth and product-related)
  • Identify opportunities to achieve operational excellence for a rapidly growing commercial organization
  • Use analytical and strategic thinking to solve complex problems and drive business decisions through well thought out recommendations to stakeholders
  • Provide direction in planning, designing and implementing strategic business objectives, including synthesizing complex business problems, drawing out strategic insights, and co-developing quantitiative business models
  • Provide project management support to the office of the CEO and help build presentations for executive leadership team and board of directors
  • Conduct deep dive research on different scientific and therapeutic areas distilling key information for presentations
  • Analyze competitive therapeutic landscape from the financial and scientific perspectives, synthesizing and communicating key findings to internal stakeholders in a concise and timely manner
  • Partner with corporate strategy and commercial teams on strategic assessments of different market opportunities to support growth within early discovery programs 
  • Proactively monitor and track industry trends and competitive assets on market and in development within therapeutic areas relevant to the organization
  • Identify and reconcile similarities and/or differences of insights gathered from publicly available resources with those gathered internally by market research and internal market analysis 
  • Support management by creating and contributing to BoD, investor, and other presentations
  • Spearhead and/or facilitate cross-functional, collaborative initiatives within the organization as part of synthesizing relevant insights for business challenges and decisions
  • Integrate information from public domain and distill to inform management through clearly communicated presentations
  • Other duties as assigned 
Education and Experience:
  • MBA and/or advanced degree in relevant scientific field with 2 years’ experience in a consulting firm and possesses at least 8 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, those that possess a PhD or MD would be preferred with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Expertise in strategic areas such as organizational design, commercial transitions for biotech companies, product launch strategy, and corporate strategy
  • Familiarity with the principles of strategic evaluations and building business cases
  • Strong analytical skills and broad business understanding of the biotech/pharmaceutical business and R&D process
  • Experience interpreting the scientific/regulatory/commercial considerations of drug products and biopharmaceutical companies
  • Experience gathering and integrating inputs from all disciplines in the company to facilitate assessments, planning and strategy by the CEO, executive team and Board of Directors. Able to help bring these inputs up to an appropriately high level to facilitate effective high-level communications, analysis and decision making.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: 
 
Physical Activities: On a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. Laboratory Activities (if applicable): Biology and chemical laboratory environment experience needed.  Environmental health and safety requirements also apply.
 
TRAVEL:
 
Travel may be required up to 20% of your time.
 
The Anticipated Base Salary Range:  $140,000-$184,000
In addition to your base pay, our total rewards program consists of a discretionary annual target bonus, stock options, ESPP, and 401k match. We also provide top-notch health insurance plans for employees (and their families) to include medical, dental, vision and basic life insurance, 20 days of PTO, 10 paid holidays, and a winter company shutdown. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience and education. Crinetics Pharmaceuticals is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
