Position Summary:
This is a part time, studentship position with the ability to work from 15-40 hours per week onsite in San Diego, CA. We are seeking a motivated undergraduate student to join the biology team as a Research Assistant. This is a fantastic learning opportunity in a small company environment where you will be surrounded by experienced and committed mentors. You must be in San Diego as this position is onsite.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:  
These may include but are not limited to:  

  • Cell biology: Prepare growth media & plates using aseptic techniques, maintain cells in culture.
  • Lab automation: Operate and maintain automated liquid handlers, QC liquid handling, develop automation protocols.
  • Pharmacology: Perform cell-based assays to evaluate small molecule activity on target receptors.
  • Online research: Literature search & reprint retrieval General Lab: Ordering, stocking, inventory, maintaining accurate notebook and other records.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate student studying Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.
  • Completed coursework in biology and at least one biochemistry or molecular biology laboratory course.
  • An individual who is committed to a career in research, flexible, hardworking, and eager to learn.
  • Students in their sophomore or junior year are preferred. Students in their final year will not be considered as there is a one year commitment required. 
Technical Knowledge Required: 
Software Knowledge:  Windows, MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Physical Demands and Work Environment: 
Physical Activities: On a continuous basis, sit at desk for an extended period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions and responsibilities of this job. Laboratory Activities (if applicable): Biology and chemical laboratory environment experience needed. Environmental health and safety requirements also apply.

Pay Rate: $23/hour.
